FACTORS AFFECTING ALAR BASE WIDTH AFTER LE FORT I OSTEOTOMY

Abstract

Objective: Identify factors affecting postoperative changes in alar base width after Le Fort I osteotomy.


Methods: A retrospective study was performed in 250 patients undergoing Le Fort I osteotomy. Preoperative and 1-year postoperative CBCT and soft-tissue measurements were analyzed. Multiple regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with nasal widening and nasal tip rotation.


Results: Preoperative nasal width, oral vestibular incision, and the amount of superior and anterior movement at point A were independently associated with increased nasal width.


Conclusion: Both surgical movement and preoperative nasal morphology influence postoperative nasal changes after Le Fort I osteotomy. Individualized preoperative nasal assessment is necessary for surgical planning.
