Abstract

Objective: To determine the success rate of methotrexate treatment for unruptured ectopic pregnancy at Kien Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in 2025.

Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted on 90 patients diagnosed with unruptured ectopic pregnancy who received medical treatment with methotrexate at Kien Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

Result: Medical treatment with methotrexate was successful in 77.8% of patients. Serum β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) levels decreased significantly throughout the follow-up period (p < 0.001). A second dose of methotrexate was required in 15.7% of patients, while 1.4% required surgical intervention. Overweight and obesity were significantly associated with the need for more than one dose of methotrexate (OR = 5.6, 95% CI: 1.4–22.0; p = 0.008), whereas age was not significantly associated with treatment outcomes.

Conclusion: Medical treatment with methotrexate achieved a success rate of 77.8% in patients with unruptured ectopic pregnancy. Overweight and obesity were significantly associated with the need for multiple doses of methotrexate.
