CHARACTERISTICS OF DEPRESSION IN HEART FAILURE PATIENTS WITH NYHA CLASS 2 AND 3

Abstract

We conducted a study with the goal of describing the characteristics of  depression manifestations in heart failure patients with NYHA class 2 and 3. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study,  including 118 patients diagnosed with heart failure according to the European Society of Cardiology criteria in 2016 by doctors from Cardiology Institute - Bach Mai hospital. Results: Heart failure patients with NYHA class 2 and 3 who had depression manifestations were most common in the age group ≥ 70. The mean age was 65.5 ± 13.3 years old, usually in women. Of the 3 typical symptoms, most patients have reduced energy and easy fatigue with the rate of 94.0%. Among 7 common symptoms, the majority of patients showed sleep disturbance with the rate of 96.0%. Of the 8 somatic syndrome, the majority of patients showed signs of waking up at least 2 hours earlier than normal (96.0%), followed by severe depression symptoms in the morning (84.0%) and loss/decreased interest and pleasure (78.0%).
