Abstract

Purpose: to evaluate the effectiveness of needle revision combined with local autologous blood in the treatment of early and late bleb leaks following trabeculectomy. Methods: a prospective study. Results: 5 bleb leak eyes, including 4 early leaks and 1 late leak, which failed with conservative treatments, and soft contact lens bandages were treated by needle revision and local autologous blood. All leak eyes were closed and stabilized over the follow-up time and further. Intraocular pressure and visual acuity of all subjects were comparable to before needling. No complications, including flat anterior chamber, choroidal effusion, hyphema, and bleb perforation, were recorded. Conclusion: Needle revision combined with local autologous blood was a simple technique with high effectiveness in treating early and late bleb leaks. It should be considered as a treatment of choice before attempting surgical interventions.
