SOFT MENINGITIS – LITERATURE REVIEW AND CASE REPORT
Main Article Content
Abstract
Central nervous system tuberculosis is divided into 3 types: Meningitis; Intracranial tuberculoma, and Spinal arachnoiditis. Anatomically the meninges include (from the outside to the inside): The dura (the inner lining of the skull); arachnoid; Soft meninges (covers the entire brain parenchyma, including the sulci of the brain). Cerebrospinal fluid circulates in the space between the arachnoid and soft meninges. In cases of tuberculous meningitis, observed on MRI the lesion usually has arachnoid predominance; when the soft membrane was damaged due to tuberculosis, the adjacent brain parenchyma is often affected, the patient will appear abnormal signs of the central nervous system related to cortical gray matter. We report the case of a 4-year-old pediatric patient who was confirmed and treated for tuberculous meningitis at the National Lung Hospital with a fairly typical and also quite special MRI image of the soft meninges, with the desire to provide a more comprehensive perspective to colleagues about this disease.
