ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECT OF NEAR VISION AIDS IN VIETNAMESE LOW VISION PEOPLE

Abstract
Objective: To assess the effect of the near vision devices in Vietnamese low vision people. Research methods: cross-section study with 886 patients participated from 2013 to 2016 in low vision unit in Vietnam National Eye Hospital. Results: In 478 low vision children, there were 29.3% priscribed near vision devices. The high plus glasses were used the most (56.4%). The power of magnifiers were from +6.00 to +38.00D. Compare to before aided, near vision after aided improved a lot 1.14 ± 0.28M (p<0.05), the reading distance improved the most with video handheld magnifier. In 408 low vision adults, there were 46.3% priscribed near vision devices. The hand held magnifiers were used the most (35.4%). The power of magnifiers were from +4.00 to +28.00D. Compare to before aided, near vision after aided improved a lot 0.98 ± 0.26M (p<0.05), the reading distance improved the most with video handheld magnifier. Conclusion: With both low vision children and adults in Vietnam, near vision and reading distance improved after using magnifiers
