SARCOPENIA AND NUTRITION STATUS IN ELDERLY INPATIENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: to determine the nutritional status, the ratio of sarcopenia and related factors to sarcopenia in inpatient elder people in the hospital. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed in 120 elderly patients who are inpatient treatment at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. All paticipants are evaluated with nutritional status; measuring muscle mass by BIA-Bioeletrical impedance analysis and diagnosed with sarcopenia according to the standards of Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. Results: Average age: 72.3 ± 6.5, women account for 41.7%. The malnutrition rate according to MNA-SF is 53.5%, the prevalence of sarcopenia is 67.5%. Factors associated with sarcopenia were advanced age, women, Chronic energy deficiency (BMI <18.5) and malnutrition (MNA-SF <8). Conclusion: The rate of malnutrition and sarcopenia is relatively high in the elderly inpatient patients at the hospital. Sarcopenia is related to high age, women and poor nutrition.
