Abstract

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from January to April 2020 to describe the situation of and related factors to stress disorder among high school students in Hanoi during the period of social distancing due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Children's Revised Impact of Event Scale (CRIES-8) was used to measure the status of stress disorder among 1,517 students from two high schools, namely Dong Anh High School and Kim Lien High School. The results showed that the proportion of high school students in Hanoi experiencing stress disorders during the COVID-19 epidemic was relatively high at 21.0%. The percentage of students in Dong Anh High School having stress disorder was higher than 2.2 times of those in Kim Lien High School, accounting for 29.1% and 13.5%, respectively. The difference was statistically significant (aOR, 0.41; 95%CI, 0.30-0.56). Statistically significant factors related to stress disorder caused by COVID-19 include: keeping extracurricular activities reduced students' stress disorder (aOR, 0.68; 95%CI, 0.49-0.94); students whose parents did not change their academic pressure had less risk for RLCT (aOR, 0.65; 95%CI, 0.43-0.98); social support at a medium level would reduce the risk for RLCT (aOR, 0.63; 95%CI, 0.47-0.97).
