EFFECTIVE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC SPHENOID SINUSITIS BY ENDOSCOPIC SURGERY AT CAN THO ENT HOSPITAL AND CAN THO GENERAL HOSPITAL 2021-2022

Abstract
Background: Sphenoid sinusitis is a very common disease and can lead to serious complications. Objective: To evaluate the results of chronic sphenoid sinusitis by endoscopic surgery at Can Tho Otolaryngology Hospital and Can Tho City General Hospital in 2021-2022. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study in 45 patients with chronic sphenoid sinusitis indicated for laparoscopic surgery. Results: 73.3% of patients had surgery time less than 60 minutes, the average number of days in hospital was 6 days. Among the types of surgery performed, the sphenoid sinus opening has a frequency of 100%. Sinus opening surgery combined with polypectomy accounted for the highest rate of 37.8%. The surgical site on 2 sides and 1 side were 66.7% and 33.3%, respectively. Type 2 sphenoid sinus surgery (64.4%) accounted for more than type 1 (35.6%). The majority of the sphenoidal sinus openings were completely blocked (42.2%). Lesions in the sphenoid sinus were mainly clear mucus (48.9%). 15.6% of patients had bleeding complications after surgery. The results of treatment according to functional and physical symptoms using the LUND - KENNEDY scale decreased markedly over time from the first week, the second week, the fourth week and the twelfth week. Overall surgical results were assessed as being good, accounting for 3 months. 24.4% in the first week after surgery and increased to 100% in the 12th week. Conclusion: The endoscopic surgery for rhinosinusitis was performed quickly, safely, with good recovery efficiency, gradually increasing after 12 weeks of follow-up.
