Abstract

Objectives: To describe clinical characteristics and plasma prolactin levels in female depressed patients. Subjects and methods: 31 female patients with major depression met the criteria for diagnosis, exclusion, and inpatient treatment at the Psychiatric Department, 103 Military Hospital from November 2021 to August 2022. Serum prolactin levels were determined by chemiluminescence. Results: The most common symptoms of depressive disorder were low mood, loss of interest and interests, insomnia, loss of appetite, slow movement, depressed pessimism (100%). Fatigue and loss of energy accounted for 96.77%, suicidal ideation and behavior were found in 70.97% of patients. The number of patients with moderate depression was 54.84%, followed by major depression at 45.16%. The average plasma prolactin concentration before treatment was 84.5 ± 55.3 ng/mL, after treatment was 26.9 ± 27.9. Plasma prolactin concentrations were highest in the age group <18 (112.0 ± 30.1ng/mL) and lowest in the age group > 45 (61.2 ± 54.5 ng/mL). Plasma prolactin concentrations were higher in major depression (90.2 ± 58.8 ng/mL) than in moderate depression (79.8 ± 53.5 ng/mL). Conclusion: Patients with major depressive disorder include many symptoms of depression, the most common of which are decreased mood, loss of interest and interest, insomnia, loss of appetite, slow movement, pessimistic depression., high suicidal behavior intention. The plasma prolactin concentration index increased before treatment and decreased after treatment.
