Abstract

An intervention study without a control group on 310 students of grade 4 and grade 5 to evaluate the effectiveness of communication interventions to improve knowledge, attitude and practice about hand washing with soap (HWWS) of primary school students. Intervention activities were carried out for 8 weeks at the school. The results showed that the percentage of students with correct knowledge and good attitude about HWWS increased after the intervention, 73.3% and 92.0% compared to 51.9% and 86.5% before the intervention. Hand washing practice at necessary times and HWWS of students have also been significantly improved, increasing by 10.7% - 42.6% compared to the baseline survey. The intervention method significantly improved the knowledge, attitude and practice of HWWS among primary school students. Primary schools need to maintain and strengthen communication activities to improve handwashing practices among students, contributing to improving health.
