Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the results of laparoscopic surgery for left colon adenocarcinoma at Hanoi Medical University Hospital in the period 2017-2021. Subjects and Methods: A retrospective descriptive study with longitudinal follow-up on 63 patients diagnosed with non-metastatic left colon adenocarcinoma who underwent laparoscopic left colectomy with lymph node dissection. January 2017 to January 2021. Results: There were 12 (19%) tumors in the mucosa (T1), 24 (38%) tumors invading the muscle layer (T2), 25 (40%) cases invading the subserosal layer (T3), and 2 ( 3%) of serosa invasion (T4). The average number of lymph nodes removed was 16.3 ± 3.6 (12 – 24). 100% of cases in the upper and lower sections of the tumor did not have cancer cells. The average surgical time was 151 ± 38.7 minutes (60 – 360), the average postoperative hospital stay was 6.8 ± 2.8 days. There were no complications or mortality after surgery. 55 patients with left colon cancer had an estimated mean overall survival time of 17.05 ± 9.3 (months). Conclusion: Laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of left colon adenocarcinoma is safe and effective surgery with low complication rate, can be applied to specialized hospitals in cancer treatment, has full equipment, experienced surgeons.
