PREVALENCE OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES AND RELATED FACTORS AT WOMEN’S AND CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF KIEN GIANG PROVINCE

Abstract

Objective: The prevalence of gestational diabetes and related factors of pregnant women visiting at the women’s and children’s hospital of Kien Giang province from November 2021 to April 2022. Methods: A cross-sectional study surveying 271 pregnant women at 24-28 weeks who had not been diagnosed with diabetes before pregnancy and had a 75g glucose tolerance test - 2 hours during the period from November 2021 to April 2022 at the women’s and children’s hospital of Kien Giang province. Results: The rate of gestational diabetes of pregnant women who came for antenatal care at the women’s and children’s hospital of Kien Giang province was 26.9% (95% CI: 21.9 – 32.6). There are a number of related factors in which pregnant women aged from 25 to 34 years old have a 3.68 times higher risk of gestational diabetes compared with women < 25 years old (95% CI: 1.36 – 10). 10.0; p = 0.01). For pregnant women aged ≥35, this risk increased to 5.52 times (95% CI: 1.74 - 17.54; p = 0.004). Pregnant women with a family history of diabetes in the first generation were 2.18 times more likely to develop gestational diabetes than women without this history (95% CI: 1.18-4).,02; p=0.013). Conclusion: Pay attention to screening for gestational diabetes in pregnant women from 25 years of age or with a family history of diabetes.
