EFFICACY OF SUBGINGIVAL AIR POLISHING IN THE NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT OF PERIODONTITIS PATIENTS: A RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED CLINICAL TRIAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
The RCT study was conducted on 64 periodontitis patients at Periodontal Department, National hospital of odonto-stomatology to describe some patient characteristics and and evaluate the results of subgingival air polishing treatment. Patients were divided into 2 groups: Test group received additional subgingival air polishing with PT-A Dental Scaler and Air Polisher and control group received conventonal treatment. The results show that the mean pocket depth, SBI, GI, PLI index were 2,39±0,75, 1,49±0,72, 0,94±0,57 và 1,83±0,49, respectively. After treatment, using air polishing resulted in a significant reduction of periodontal indices after 1 month, but no statistically significant differences could be found between test and control group. Therefore, we can add air polishing as an adjunct to other non-surgical periodontitis treatments, but further studies are needed to better evaluate the effectiveness of this method.
