Abstract

Diabetes is becoming a global health problem. The disease burden is thought to be a risk factor for mental disorders in people with diabetes. Objectives: 1) Describe the depression status of diabetic patients treated at the National Hospital of Endocrinology in 2022. 2) Analyze some factors related to depression. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study of 390 diabetes patients who are currently being treated and cared for at the National Hospital of Endocrinology from April 2022 to December 2022. Results: the average score of the PHQ9 scale was 4,49 points, the number of patients with depression (PHQ9 scale score ≥ 5) with 152 patients accounted for 39%. Patients requiring combined oral and insulin therapy, poor disease control, high fasting glucose index and high fructosamine index, and smoking were assessed as related factors associated with the risk of depression (p < 0,05).
