Abstract

Objectives: Comment on the shape of the bimaxillary arches and determine some arch dimensions on the agar casts in the group of students aged 18-24 years old. Subjects and research methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study by clinical examination and measurement on agar arches over 305 students (136 men, 169 women) aged 18-24 years old. Results: The proportion of oval arches was the majority with 96.7%; square: 2.0%; triangle: 1.3%; arch dimensions of maxillary teeth: R33: 33.5±4.3 mm; R66: 51.8±4.1 mm; D13: 8.7±3.2 mm; D16: 30.0±4.2 mm; arch dimensions of mandibular: R33: 26.6±3.9 mm; R66: 45.7±3.7 mm; D13: 6.1±2.3 mm; D16: 25.8±3.5 mm.  Conclusion: The most common shape was oval, the distribution of arch shape was significantly different by gender, anterior and posterior width in square dental arches were larger than oval and triangular ones; the anterior and posterior lengths of triangular arches were larger than square and oval, and the dimensions of the bimaxillary archs were larger in men than in women.
