Abstract

Intestinal obstruction caused by fibrous bands originating from the apex of Meckel's diverticulum is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction, and only a few cases of this disease have been reported in the medical literature. There are no complete statistics on the incidence of the disease. The disease does not have a typical imaging feature and is based on indirect findings on CT scan. Early detection using imaging methods such as ultrasound, unprepared abdominal X-ray, and contrast-enhanced CT scan contributes to the timely diagnosis to avoid serious complications such as bowel necrosis, intestinal perforation, and perforated diverticulum. We report a case of an 8-year-old boy with intestinal obstruction caused by fibrous bands originating from the apex of Meckel's diverticulum that was exactly diagnosed and successfully treated with surgery at the Children's Hospital in Haiphong. The purpose of this study is to summarize the clinical features and imaging features of intestinal obstruction caused by fibrous bands originating from the apex of Meckel's diverticulum to guide the diagnosis and select appropriate treatment methods.
