Abstract

A cross-sectional descriptive study, conducted on 51 patients with gastrointestinal cancer who underwent surgery at the Oncology Center of Thai Nguyen National Hospital with the aim of describing the nutritional status of patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Post-operative chemotherapy at the Oncology Center of Thai Nguyen National Hospital in 2022 and analysis of some related factors. The method of assessing the nutritional status of adults is based on the 2006 WHO standard classification and PG-SGA assessment. The study results showed that according to the PG-SGA assessment classification, 82,4% of the study subjects had mild and moderate malnutrition; 3,9% of subjects had severe malnutrition. Classified by BMI, 29,5% of study subjects were malnourished, 1,9% of subjects were overweight. Found a statistically significant association between cancer stage; symptoms of anorexia, loss of appetite and nutritional status of the study group (p<0,05).
