Abstract

Background: Predicting the severity in patients with acute pancreatitis helps to detect complications early so that timely intervention measures can be taken to reduce mortality. The BISAP and JSS scores have high values in predicting the severity of VTC. Objective: Compare the value of BISAP and JSS scores in predicting the severity of patients with acute pancreatitis. Subjects and research methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study of 108 AP patients hospitalized at A9 Emergency Center, Bach Mai Hospital from January 2022 to June 2023. Results: Among 108 patients, there were 28 (25.8%) patients with severe acute pancreatitis, 5 (4.6%) patients died. In the prognosis of severe acute pancreatitis, the area under the curve of BISAP and JSS is 0.954 (0.916-0.992; p<0.01) and 0.898 (0.832-0.964; p<0.01), respectively. At the BISAP cut-off point, there were 3 predictors of severe acute pancreatitis with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 92.9%, 90%, 76.5%, and 97.3%, respectively. At the JSS cut-off point, there were 5 predictors of severe pancreatitis with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 78.6%, 88.7%, 71%, and 92%. Conclusion: BISAP is a more valuable score than JSS in predicting severe acute pancreatitis within 24 hours of admission.
