Abstract

Background: More than 50% of drug costs are wasted every year due to inappropriate prescribing, dispensing and using drugs. This leads to an increasing number of adverse drug reactions. Research objective: To evaluate the status and results of some post-intervention solutions on prescribing in outpatient prescribing practice at the health center in Binh Tan district, Vinh Long province. Subjects of the study: Outpatient prescriptions of patients treated at the Binh Tan district health center. Results: The average number of drugs prescribed was 5.08; antibiotic prescription rate is 27.5%; 43.5% of prescriptions appear to have drug interactions; After the intervention, the average number of drugs per prescription and the rate of drug interactions decreased significantly (p < 0.05), the rate of prescriptions with antibiotics decreased, but not statistically significant with p > 0.05. Conclusion: The study is a reference for health workers and leaders on the situation of outpatient drug prescribing at a district health facility.
