Abstract

Objective: Chyluria is a disease of the urinary system caused by the communication between the lymphatic system and the excretory tract. Renal pelvic instillation sclerotherapy (RPIS) therapy with povidone iodine is often used in cases where conservative treatment has failed. Patients and methods: We present five clinical cases of chyluria treated with a 5% povidone iodine sclerotherapy pump at a dose of 20 mL/day for 3 consecutive days. Results: 5 cases of cloudy urine symptoms disappeared immediately after povidone iodine injection, 2 cases of moderate and mild lower costal pain but did not need to be treated with analgesia, after 3 days were negative. Conclusion: Using multi-dose 5% povidone iodine in the treatment of chylous diabetes has the same therapeutic effect as other RPIS regimens, is a minimally invasive, effective, cost-effective and safe method.
