Abstract

Objective: Describe the clinical and subclinical features of damage to the neck and nape area in Madelung disease. Assessment of the influence of these characteristics on the indications for treatment, and surgery. Subject and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on 20 patients with neck and nape lesions in Madelung disease who visited between May 2018 and May 2023 at 108 Military Central Hospital. Results: Madelung disease mainly occurred in male patients with a mean age of 59.05 years. These patients all had a history of alcoholism for many years. The first location of the tumor appeared mainly in the anterior neck area, accounting for 70%. When patients were examined and treated, the lesion spread to many areas of the body, of which 90% of patients spread the entire neck and nape area, significantly affecting the patient's head and neck movement and appearance. In addition, subclinical symptoms and accompanying pathologies were diverse, in which typically an increase in liver enzymes accounts for 70%, alcoholic hepatitis accounts for 65%, and hypertension 55%. Conclusion: Madelung disease is a rare disease, which is now appearing more and more. The disease has diverse clinical and subclinical symptoms, affecting many aesthetics as well as functions of patients.
