PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES OF NURSING STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE OF HO CHI MINH CITY AND RELATED FACTORS

Abstract

The background: Increasing levels of physical inactivity have a negative impact on all aspects of society. In which, the rate of insufficient physical activity according to the studies is relatively high among health workers and especially nurses. Several international and national studies have shown that nursing students also have sub-recommended physical activity rates. However, currently, studies on related physical activity in nursing students are found to be limited in Vietnam. Therefore, this study was conducted to survey “Physical activity of nursing students at University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City and related factors”. Objective: Survey on the level of physical activity in Nursing students, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Ho Chi Minh City and related factors. Subjects and methods research: Cross-sectional descriptive analysis, conducted on 311 students from four classes of Bachelor of Nursing, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, online survey, from April to July 2023. Data analysis using Stata 12 software used Krusal Wallis test, Man-whittney test, Spearman correlation and 95% confidence interval to find associations. Results: More than half of the total number of students participating in the study had a low level of financial activity, accounting for 52.4%, while the average and high level of financial activity was 37.3% and 10.3%, respectively. The study found a statistically significant relationship between the sexual activity and the sex factor with p=0.0013. The study did not record the relationship with the remaining factors such as school year, club membership, BMI classification and current residence (p>0.05). Conclusion: The study showed that Bachelor of Nursing students studying at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the academic year 2022-2023 had a rather high level of low self-esteem, and at the same time recorded a statistically significant difference between the student's level of financial activity and gender. Regarding the remaining factors, the study has not found a difference
