ASSESSMENT OF HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEART FAILURE: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY IN HAI DUONG, VIETNAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Heart failure is currently a public health issue, associated with a significant burden of reduced health status, mortality rate, and healthcare costs. Most studies on health-related quality of life in patients with chronic heart failure have been conducted in developed countries. Data on health-related quality of life in patients with heart failure in Vietnam is limited. Objective: This study was conducted to assess health-related quality of life using the SF36 scale in outpatients with chronic heart failure at the Cardiology Center of Hai Duong province hospital, Vietnam. Subjects: Outpatients with heart failure treated at the Cardiology Center of Hai Duong Province from December 2021 to April 2022. Study design: Cross-sectional descriptive study. Results: One hundred forty patients were included in the study, with a mean age of 56.3 ± 8.5 years, and a male to female ratio of 1.59:1. Health-related quality of life decreased in all physical and mental health domains, with scores of 44.3 (30.5-52.1) and 46.9 (32.1-58.8), respectively. Scores in most domains did not differ by sex, age, or left ventricular ejection fraction. The vitality domain was significantly lower in women than men with scores of 40 (35-50) and 45 (35-55), respectively, with p = 0.046. The physical functioning domain was lower in patients aged ≥ 60 years than in those aged < 60 years with p = 0.022. In the emotional limitation’s domain, patients with reduced ejection fraction had lower scores than those with preserved ejection fraction, with p = 0.038. Conclusion: The study showed that health-related quality of life in patients with chronic heart failure was significantly decreased in physical and mental health domains.
