Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the role of sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in diagnosis of occult lymph node metastasis among Vietnamese patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma in Hanoi Medical University Hospital. Patients and method: Cross-sectinal study of 170 patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma who underwent SLN biopsy at Oncology and Palliative care Department of Hanoi Medical University Hospital during 12/2021- 12/2022. Results: The rate of detecting sentinel lymph node using Methylene blue is 98.2%, the positive rate of SLN lesion in frozen section was 39.5%. Central lymph node metastasis in final pathology investigations was 51.5%. Sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive and negative predictive values of SLN biopsy was 76.7%, 100%, 100%, 80.1%, 88% và 23.3% respectively. Conclusions: Our study implies that SLN biopsy with methylene blue dye method is a technically feasible and safe, which can reveal occult metastasis among papillary thyroid cancer patients with cN0 stage who may get benefit from selective neck dissection.
