Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a common respiratory disease, affecting the patient's work capacity and quality of life. COPD has become a health burden in low- and middle-income countries like Vietnam and requires comprehensive efforts for effective control. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 209 COPD outpatients aged 40 years and older treated at the respiratory clinic of Nguyen Tri Phuong hospital from February 2023 to August 2023. The results showed that the majority of patients were men. The rate of current smokers accounted for 30.1% of patients. The proportion of patients with many respiratory symptoms is still high, of which 55.0% have mMRC ≥ 2 and more than 3/4 of patients have CAT ≥ 10 points. Outpatients with COPD need to be closely monitored and treated to reduce the severity and frequency of exacerbations. It is necessary to screen for smoking status and to advice patients to quit smoking. Research is the premise for implementing more in-depth surveys.
