PATIENT'S EXPERIENCE DURING INPATIENT TREATMENT AT AN GIANG CENTRAL GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: Responses from patients who experience using health care services are internationally recognized as a source of information to improve the quality of medical services. Objective: to investigate the patients' experiences during inpatient treatment at An Giang Central General Hospital. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 400 inpatients at the Department of Internal Medicine and General Surgery of An Giang Central General Hospital from May to August 2020. Stratified sampling method was used. Questionnaires are used to collect data. Descriptive statistics. Results: The rate of positive patient experiences during inpatient treatment is 86.6%. The highest rate of positive experiences was pain control at 91.7%. The rate of positive experiences when communicating with nurses reached 90%, communicating with doctors reached 88.5%, medical staff responding to patient requests reached 88%, and hospital discharge reached 86.5%. The lowest positive patient experiences were for hospital environment (82.3%) and drug information (77.5%). Conclusion: In order to increase the rate of positive experiences of inpatients, hospitals need to have plans to improve the hospital environment, medical staff need to increase explanation and advice to patients, especially information about drugs as well as providing information about medical issues that need to be noted for patients after discharge.
