Abstract

Hepatic hemangioma is a benign tumor of the liver, composed of blood-filled cavities lined by endothelial cells and fed by the hepatic artery. The incidence of liver hemangioma is about 2% in the population. Giant liver hemangiomas are defined by a diameter larger than 5 cm. In patients with a giant liver hemangioma, the preference for resection depends on the obtained certainty of localization, size, number of lesions, and growth pattern of the hemangioma. We report a case of a 47-year-old female patient who was admitted to the hospital because she felt a tumor accompanied by dull pain in the epigastric area. Through clinical examination and MRI scanner, the patient was diagnosed with a giant liver hemangioma located in the left functional lobe of the liver, with a diameter of 30 cm. She had a successful left hepatectomy and was periodically monitored for stability. In this report, the authors present giant liver hemangiomas' clinical and histological features with a literature review.
