THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN QUALITY OF LIFE AND SOME GERIATRIC SYNDROMES IN PATIENTS WITH PARKINSON DISEASE

Abstract

Objective: to determine the relationship between quality of life and some geriatric syndromes in Parkinson's patients. Subjects and methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study on 133 patients diagnosed with Parkinson who  who were examined and treated at the National Geriatric Hospital. Participants were diagnosed with Parkinson's according to The UK Parkinson's Disease Society Brain Bank clinical diagnostic criteria. Quality of life was assessed according to the PHQ8 scale. Results: the mean age was 67.87 ± 5.95 (years).  The average quality of life score according to the PDQ – 8 scale was 9.83 ± 4.63. There was a statistically significant relationship between  quality of life and geriatric syndromes such as: decline in daily functioning according to ADL and IADL, sleep disorders, depression and malnutrition (p<0, 05). Conclusion: Quality of life in Parkinson's patients in the study were at an average level. Quality of life is related to some geriatric syndrome such as: decline in daily functioning, sleep disorders, depression and malnutrition.
