KNOWLEDGE ABOUT SAFE SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE OF STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY, TRA VINH UNIVERSITY

Abstract
Objective: Determine the proportion of students having complete knowledge about safe sex and evaluate factors affecting the knowledge of safe sex among students of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Tra Vinh University. Subjects and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 267 students of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Tra Vinh University, in 2023. The stratified random sampling method was used to select subjects from the Nursing, Imaging technology, Medical technology, Medicine and Pharmacy students. Results: The proportion of students with correct knowledge about safe sex is 12,7%. Factors related to correct knowledge about safe sex were the length of time in school (PR=3,04; 95% CI=1,09-8.50) and the student's major (PR=0,56; 95% CI=0,07-0,43). Using condoms was the most widely known contraceptive method (92,1%), vand HIV/AIDS infection was the most known sexually transmitted disease (85,8%). Genital itching was the most common sign of the sexual disease and was known by students (77,2%). Conclusion: It is necessary to strengthen education about safe sex, contraceptive methods, sexually transmitted diseases, as well as signs of disease to students.
