Abstract

Objective: To evaluate and compare the effectiveness of Lacalut Aktiv toothpaste containing Aluminum Lactate versus a placebo toothpaste on gingivitis treatment at Hanoi Medical University students. Method: A randomized controlled trial had been conducted of 80 study participants with a diagnosis of plaque-induced gingivitis. The patients were randomly divided into 2 groups: using Lacalut Aktiv toothpaste or placebo toothpaste. The OHI-S and GI indexes of both groups are recorded and compared at the time before intervention; re-examination after 2 weeks and after 4 weeks. Results: The group using Lacalut Aktiv toothpaste had improvements in GI index and OHI-S index that were superior to the toothpaste chosen to be included in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Lacalut Aktiv toothpaste is effective in treating gingivitis in students at Hanoi Medical University. Further research with a larger sample size is needed to have a firm conclusion.
