Abstract

Objective: to find out the relationship between anxiety disorders and myopia and some other related factors in a group of senior university students. Subjects and methods: a cross-sectional study performed on 240 final-year students studying at Vinh University, from August 2023 to December 2023. Anxiety status was assessed through the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale. Determine myopia based on the most recent routine examination.  Results: 240 research subjects including 12.5% of university students showed signs of anxiety (10.4% mild, 1.3% moderate, and 0.8% severe level). There were 50.4% of subjects with myopia (35.4% mild, 12.9% moderate, and 2.1% severe myopia). There was a relationship between anxiety and students' myopia (OR=3.08; 95%CI: 1.31-7.24; p<0.01), living alone or with relatives/friends (OR=2.49, 95%CI: 1.23-5.49; p<0.01), and family history of having a first-degree relative with a mental disorder or not (OR=6.31; 95%CI:1.59-24.99; p<0.05). Conclusion: Myopia, living status, and family history of senior students were associated with a higher risk of anxiety disorder.
