Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the results of treating equinus deformity in cosmetic leg-lengthening patients. Subjects and methods: In a retrospective control study, 32 adult patients with severe equinus deformity due to cosmetic bilateral leg-lengthening using the LON method at 108 Military Central Hospital from January 2012 to December 2022 were divided into two groups: 15 patients underwent Achilles tenotomy at one site (group I); 17 patients underwent percutaneous Achilles hemi-tenotomy at three site (group II) according to Hoke technique. Results: Six months postoperative, the average of AOFAS scores and ankle dorsiflexion range were 96.08 ± 3.17 points và 20.06 ± 5.150. Although the AOFAS scores, the range of ankle dorsiflexion, and the range of ankle plantar flexion were not significantly different in the two groups with P>0.05, the ability to perform a single-legged heel-rise in group I was lower than in group II. Conclusion: Treatment of severe equinus deformity using the percutaneous Achilles tenotomy according to the Hook technique is a safe and highly effective method with aesthetic scars.
