ACUTE DISSEMINATED ENCEPHALOMYELITIS IN CHILDREN: FOCUS ON RELAPSING PATIENTS AND PROGNOSTIC FACTORS FOR RELAPSE

Abstract
We studied on 72 children presented with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis in Vietnam National Children’s Hospital from February 2018 to January 2023 to evaluate prognostic factors for relapse after ADEM in children. Results: during the follow-up period of 26.9 ± 17.4 months (min: 6 months, max: is 63 months), twenty (27,8%) of included patients had relapsed attacks with the following phenotypes: multiple disseminated encephalomyelitis and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis - optic neuritis. There were no statistically significant differences in clinical characteristics and MRI lesions between relapsing group and monophasic group. A positive MOG –IgG in serum increases the risk of relapse by 4.33 times (p < 0.05).
