Abstract

Objective: To assess the degree of injury and actual state of pre-hospital emergency care due to the road traffic accidents examined at Tien Hai General Hospital, Thai Binh. Methods: A cross-sectional description of 412 road traffic accident victims who were examined at Tien Hai District General Hospital, Thai Binh from September 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016. Results: Out of 412 patients, males accounted for (66.5%), females were (33.5%), male/female ratio was 2/1. Injuries of minor scale (92.5%), severe and very severe (1.6%). The rate of people who received first aid prehospitally was (44.7%). The rate of getting first aid on the spot was (39.7%), at the health station was (25.5%), on the spot + at health station were (22.8%). Surrounding people participating in first aid were mainly (64.1%). Wound bandaging was 97.8%, wound irrigation was 43.5%, fracture immobilization was 13.6% and emergency bleeding control was 2.2%. The most common means of patient transportion was motorbike (68.7%), car (28.9%), ambulance (2.4%). Conclusion: Pre-hospital emergency care rate was low. Most of people involved in first aid were surrounding. The main means of victim transportation was motorbike.
