RESULTS OF 1,5-VOLUME PLASMA EXCHANGE THERAPY IN ACUTE LIVER FAILURE DUE TO ACUTE POISONING
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: to assesss the results of 1,5-volume plasma exchange therapy in the patients with acute liver failure due to acute poisoning. Methodology: This combined retrospective and prospective observational study was conducted in 68 patients with acute liver failure due to poisoning received 1,5-volume plasma exchange therapy at the Poison Control Center of Bach Mai Hospital. Results: Among 68 studied patients, the average age was 48,9 ± 17,24 years old. 52% were male and 48% were female. The total 186 of 1,5 volume plasma exchange sessions was performed. 1,5-volume plasma exchange therapy had improved coagulation functions with the percentage of PT% increased from 36,0 ± 22,72 to 69,4 ± 13,53, the INR ratio was improved (from 3,1 ± 2,33 to 1,2 ± 0,15), total bilirubin decreased from 290,5 ± 273,8 to 134,5 ± 142 µmol/L. The serum NH3 levels decreased from 104,9 ± 101,0 to 61,0 ± 56,6. The fatality was relatively low (27,95%). Conclusion: 1,5-volume plasma exchange therapy revealed good results, that improved blood coagulation functions, reduced bilirubin, NH3 levels and reduced mortality rate.
